DEFRA- NATURAL ENGLAND WALKS near Newton Grove CL:
Heythrop Park near Chipping Norton: The permissive route links to an existing public footpath, providing a pleasant circular walk around an area of ancient woodland on the Heythrop Park Estate. The path is a flat or slightly sloping woodland track. The main features of interest include the trees, some of which date back to the 18th century, and the occasional views from the path across the estate and its newly developed golf course. http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/mapboards/pdfs/AG00294398.pdf
Swerford Castle near Chipping Norton: This site enables you to visit the remains of an old Motte and Bailey Castle. The earthworks are still clearly visible and you can climb onto the mound (motte) where the castle used to be and look down into the old courtyard (bailey), which still contains raised platforms where the stables, kitchens and storerooms would have been. The castle is thought to date from the 12th century and would most likely have been built by the Normans during their occupation of Britain. http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/mapboards/pdfs/AG00327280.pdf
Glympton Estate near Woodstock: Walkers will be able to use this quiet and largely off-road route to get between the villages of Middle Barton and Steeple Barton to access the amenities such as the shop, church or pub. Or just to enjoy a relaxing walk in this beautiful area. For horse riders and cyclists this provides a better link between the two existing public bridleways, keeping them off the road for longer. http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/mapboards/pdfs/AG00307237.pdf
Over Norton Park near Chipping Norton: This permissive footpath creates a circular walk between the town of Chipping Norton and the village of Over Norton. Grass margins around the arable fields have been created as a habitat for invertebrates and small mammals, wildlife corridors and buffer zones. Grassland under agreement is being managed to encourage the development of sward structure and species diversity. Wild bird seed mixes, and other arable options, have been established to provide food and nesting opportunities for farmland birds. http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/mapboards/pdfs/AG00298022.pdf
